Nike reveal Vapor Flex 440 driver

Materials good for making drivers don’t get discovered everyday. In fact its decades since a significant step’s been made in finding the new titanium of golf! Nike reckon they’ve done just that with their new RZN material which is a specially blended thermo plastic that’s lighter than titanium yet just as strong. By making 60% of the new Vapor Flex 440 driver out of the stuff its fair to say they believe their onto a winner.

40% more RZN than the current Vapor Flex driver and that’s not the only change. Nike’s engineers have also made the face nearly 3mm deeper and stretched the head width by over 4mm by using the RZN material. A new honeycomb pattern inside the crown further reduces weight and due to the complexity of the shape the heads rigidity has been significantly improved too.

Yes the 440cc size is smaller than the Fly and Fly Pro heads but it does mean its possible to incorporate a Flex Flight pod in the sole. The pod can be flipped over (which changes spin by about 300rpm) to create either a mid weight or low weight set up which increases or reduces spin, launch and forgiveness.

The Vapor Flex won’t hit the shops until March 2016, it will come with a £379 price tag and a special limited edition Diamana Blue Board shaft which boasts of lightweight kevlar under the grip to increase stability and feel.
