However for this kind of price you expect a lot of golf shoe and I’m not quite sure whether it has the right levels of support in all the critical places, especially on the soft fairways of British golf courses in winter.

You have no concerns regarding keeping dry so wet weather isn’t a problem and there is plenty of grip too. Unquestionably you will get a smooth ride from a shoe that is very waterproof. It is just that some players will not like the feel during the swing.

Sizes 6-12 | Colour options Puma Black + Quiet Shade (grey); Puma White + Grey Violet; Puma White| BOA option? No | Waterproof warranty? Yes, one year

It’s all very well having a stiff, stable shoe, but if it doesn’t flex to the contours of your lie then you’re giving up grip. No matter what the terrain, the ProAdapt will flex to the ground’s shape. We like the cuff around the top of the shoes, which brilliantly hugs the ankle.

Puma pin-up Ricky Fowler had a big imput into the shoe’s design and it looks like a classic piece of Fowler apparel.

RRP £109.99 | VIEW OFFER
6-14 | Colour options White + Black (Galaxy Special edition); Black; White; White + Blue | BOA option? No | Waterproof warranty? Yes, one year

At first glance it looks like the kind of shoe Walter Hagen might have worn during the late 20s and it is apt, that a company that was formed in 1857, should pay tribute to period that was so important in terms of the growth of golf.

Take a closer look and you will notice the sole is much prominent than the one Hagen, Bobby Jones and Byron Nelson wore nearly a century ago. This version has a super-cushioned midsole and a built-in Achilles pad to help you avoid slippage.

In contrast the upper is pure classic spiked golf shoe. Full-grain Leather is everywhere while underneath seven Pulsar LP Cleats are very much 21st century and do a great job, helping create a solid base.

Ellesse Evron

Ellesse Evron golf shoes

7-12 | Colour options White; Black | BOA option? No | Waterproof warranty? Yes, one year

From a company synonymous with tennis it is not entirely surprising it has produced a spiked golf shoe with a nod to its origins.

However the porous-looking upper is backed with a waterproof coating and Ellesse includes a one-year waterproof warranty to give you peace of mind in that department.

The sole looks very generous and that is partly because it needs to accommodate some always-welcome memory foam and it also includes a neoprone lining for extra comfort.

Overall not much can go wrong, whatever the weather.
